Calvin Oftana making his mark with Tropang Giga

Calvin Oftana beats the buzzer

Calvin Oftana has been a valuable player for both Gilas and the TNT Tropang Giga, and has even filled in for injured RR Pogoy during the PBA Governors Cup campaign. The 27-year-old Oftana played an instrumental role in helping TNT achieve a six-game winning streak and maintain their overall card of 8-1, which places them at the top of the league standings.

Oftana averaged 14.7 points per game on a 50 percent shooting clip from beyond the arc, including a game-winning putback against San Miguel during their 105-103 victory last Sunday. He also contributed 8.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game during this run, which earned him the Cignal Play-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for the week of February 15-19.

As a member of the Gilas pool, Oftana is currently preparing for the sixth and final window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. He has proven himself to be a versatile and reliable player, capable of stepping up and filling in important roles for his team when needed.

Oftana beat out other strong candidates, including CJ Perez of San Miguel Beer, Jio Jalalon of Magnolia, and Christian Standhardinger of Barangay Ginebra, to win the weekly award. His strong performance on the court continues to impress fans and analysts alike, and he remains a key player to watch in the PBA and for the Gilas team.
